It's taken me so long to find a green smoothie recipe that even one of my kids is willing to try!

My toddler had a green smoothie at the Deliciously Ella cafe that he loved but he's suspicious of homemade smoothies for some reason.

It was, of course, my fruit and vegetable hating seven year old that I really wanted to tempt into trying a green smoothie. I tried several versions in his lunch box before finally hitting on a successful version. Well, I say successful. He didn't exactly love it but he did drink most of it and I think that this version is just delicious.

I have a real pet hate for recipes that say things like "all kids will love this" or "guaranteed to make your picky eater try it". Real parents of picky eaters know that there's no such thing as a recipe that all picky eaters will like or even be prepared to try. So I'm not going to say that! Even so this is a great green smoothie for kids and it's worth a try whether your kid is picky or not.

And if they don't hopefully you'll enjoy it yourself!

What do you need to make and serve this green smoothie?

You will need a decent blender* to make this smoothie.

I usually serve smoothies in a glass with a straw as pictured but I also often use our Nom Nom Kids pouches* to give these to the kids.

They are like the pouches that you can buy baby food and fruit purées in but they are re-usuable and allow you to make your own homemade smoothies and baby food.

Can this green smoothie be frozen?

Yes. I often make a batch of smoothies for breakfast.

Any leftovers can be frozen in the Nom Nom Kids pouches* to put in my son's lunch box. I take one out of the freezer in the morning.

This serves a double purpose of acting as an ice pack that is defrosted and drinkable by lunch time.

I make loads of green smoothies but I've not yet tried one with avocado. This sounds delicious and a good one to introduce people to the wonders of green smoothies when they're a little bit dubious.

Thanks Choclette - the avocado makes it lovely and creamy - I definitely recommend it
