Cooking gifts for kids

Are your children always keen to help in the kitchen? Do they love to chop veggies, bake cakes or knead bread? Or perhaps they don't help out much but you'd like them to. Either way here are some of my favourite cooking gifts for kids.

I've found that getting my kids to help out in the kitchen more has improved their eating and helps with moaning and bad behaviour while I'm trying to get dinner ready. If you're interested you can read more about this in my five reasons to cook with your kids post.

Many of these items are things that we've tried and tested over the years and some of them are items that my kids will be getting for Christmas this year. Mind you I haven't finished my Christmas shopping yet so there's always the chance that more foodie gifts will be added.

Cooking gifts for kids:

1. My First Green Cookbook

3. A kid safe cooking knife

Little S, two, chopping carrots with a kid-safe knife

Our most-used kids cookery product is the kid safe from Foost. It has a serrated edge and is safe for little fingers. My almost three year old uses his most days to chop all manner of veggies and he loves it. He’s never cut his fingers. Get yourself one here*. (RRP: £6.72)

Foost* also sell other items, which make great gifts for kids who love to cook.

4. Around the World with the Ingreedies

We have quite a few kids cookery books but this is the only one that’s captured my imagination as well as my kids'. I love that it focuses on foods from around the world and I also love that it contains more dinner recipes than cakes and biscuits. Check it out on Amazon*. (RRP: £12.99)

5. Nadiya’s Bake Me a Story

6. Fun food products from Eats Amazing

Blogger Grace makes incredible fun food creations for kids and her shop is full of goodies to make packed lunches fun. I love the cutters section - many of these cutters are designed for sandwiches - an easy way to get kids involved in the kitchen - but can often be used for cookies too and she also sells cupcake rings and bento picks. (Prices vary)

7. Mon Dessert mini macaron making kits

Made with natural ingredients and vegan option available with many kits. (RRP full kits £25.95/mini kits £14.95).

8. A bakeware set

Their very own set of bakeware* can really inspire a child to get in the kitchen. Some kits come with aprons and cute chef hats as well.

9. Biscuiteers courses

If you’re based in or near London then the Biscuiteers offer some lovely courses at their Clapham and Notting Hill branches. Many of the classes are for adults but they do offer kids biscuit decorating classes too through the Little School of Biscuiteers.

10. Christmas cookie cutters

12. Ice cream maker
