A classic ants on a log recipe with peanut butter and raisins spread on a celery stick. A fun and healthy snack for kids.
Have you ever tried ants on a log?
I first saw this served at my friend Amy's house. The way that her kids eat has always amazed me. I have often wished that mine would gobble up their greens, beans and veggies with as much gusto as hers.
The same went for the ants on a log.
Simply a stick, or stalk, of celery, spread with peanut butter and dotted with raisins, her kids devoured these. Mine were less sure and have taken a bit of convincing to see this as an acceptable snack!
As someone who's never really liked celery much, I think this is the perfect way to eat it.
The savouriness of the peanut butter, the sweetness of the raisins and the crunch of the celery stalk make it a great and satisfying snack. It's also extremely healthy.

Ants on a log is a great one to make with your kids
Making ants on a log is a good way to get the kids involved in the kitchen.
Give the kids the celery stalks and get them to wash them. Then they can spread their own peanut butter and add their own raisins. Even my three year old can manage this - although his peanut butter spreading needs a bit of work!
You can, of course, play around with this recipe to make it your own.
Don't like peanut butter? Try cashew or almond instead. Make it with cream cheese and pumpkin seeds for a savoury version. Hummus also works well as would most savoury dips.
